From Azeroth to Faerun

The WoW Twitterati Invades the D&D Universe

Thorim Ironarm – Dwarf Fighter

Posted by Tarsus on December 8, 2009

Description

A tall stocky Shield Dwarf with pale skin, rusty red hair, and hazel eyes. He wears his unshorn hair and beard in the traditional style, loosely braided, with brass rings fastened about the thicker plats. A scar pierces the brow of his left eye, the remains of a past battle. Otherwise, he appears the model of Dwarven masculinity, with craggy coarse features and a broad flat nose.

Origin

Thorim originally hails from the Halls of Ferraduin, the ancient stronghold of his clan.  Lost in an Earthquake beneath the world, he is now the last scion of his line and has called no place “home” for many years.

Goals

Thorim dreams of one day finding an entrance to Ferraduin and re-establishing his clan as the great defenders of the Dwarven race that they once were.  This drives him to seek out treasures reported to be of Dwarven origin and explore into ruins beneath the earth in hopes that they might be the road to that dream.  In the meantime, he has also made a point of aiding friends in their own quests, knowing one day he may need to call upon them to help him as well.

Personality

At first glance, Thorim can appear to be typical of his stoic kinfolk, given to dour expressions on serious subjects. However, when one gets to know him better (or just when plied with good food and drink) he would better be said to be jovial or even swarthy. The heat of battle can bring out the latter from the former, going from taciturn to bloodthirsty when he feels the fight get into his limbs. He is principled and strong willed, though he relies on his gut feelings more than laws written in stone to guide his moral compass.

Quick to put himself in the way of harm, especially if that harm is aimed at someone else, if Thorim could be said to have one true weakness it is that once a fight is on, he refuses to back down or surrender.  This has probably gotten him into more unnecessary scrapes than it has ever saved the day.

The Campaign Has Started

Posted by JP on December 8, 2009

Just a quick update today to let folks know what we’ve been up to.

This past Sunday, the A2F crew met for their first gaming session! Our next meeting is slated for this Saturday. We’ll be posting character background information shortly, to be followed by the events of our first session, so stay tuned!

A Note Before We Get Started

Posted by JP on November 21, 2009

I sent out a Wave this morning with some important information pertaining to the campaign and I’d like to repost parts of it here to make sure everyone who needs to see it does.

I know I said the campaign would start this weekend, but we had a couple last-minute additions to the group and I’d like to give them a chance to get caught up. Additionally, we still need to work out how we want to run the campaign (real-time sessions, etc) and I still haven’t received character sheets from a lot of people. So here’s the deal:

You have until next Friday (Nov 27th) to get me your character sheet. If I don’t receive your character sheet by then, I’m going to assume you no longer have any interest in playing, and I will remove you from the campaign Waves. It’s too difficult to keep track of both players and spectators in the campaign Waves, so I won’t be allowing spectators on our campaign Waves after next Friday. That’s why I set up this blog, so that people who wanted to watch but not participate could do so. I know it’s a bummer, but it’s just too much for me to keep track of otherwise.

A note to players: When you create your character sheet Wave, make sure you add everyone in the campaign to it. It’s your responsibility to make sure that, on any Wave you create, the relevant parties are added to it. After next Friday, I’ll be compiling a “mailing list” of sorts on our main campaign Waves so that you have a reference list of people that should be added to every Wave related to the campaign. Finally, if you haven’t been added as an author on this blog and would like to, send me your WP.com email address and I’ll add you, and if your info isn’t on the About page or your link isn’t on the Blogroll, poke me and I’ll make sure you get added.

We’ll be starting the campaign next Saturday (Nov 28th). See the latest Wave I sent for details and to add your two copper.

Tarsus Says: Update Your Wave Participants

Posted by Tarsus on November 16, 2009

Those of you who have begun putting together your characters on Google Wave, now is a good time to check and make sure you are including newly added Azeroth to Faerun gamers to that wave.

Personally, I have found the easiest way to do that is to open both my character creation wave and the main “WoW DnD Campaign – Important Links” wave (by ctrl+click-ing) and then add everyone on the latter to my contacts list.  From there, I can add them to my character creation wave, and check that the participants are the same.

Campaign Status Update

Posted by JP on November 12, 2009

Posting this here so even those who don’t yet have access to the Wave discussions can see it.

I’m currently still in the process of getting the details sorted out, such as who wants to be a part of the campaign, who still needs Wave invites, who needs access to the Wave conversations and posting access to this blog, etc. Some players have already begun rolling their characters while waiting for new folks just added to get caught up. I’ll be writing up the campaign intro within the next few days, and I’d like to get the ball rolling by next weekend if possible.

If you’ve contacted me for a Wave invite and haven’t received it yet, please email me so I can follow up and make sure you get your invite. At this point, email is the best way for me to keep track of who still needs what. (Twitter is getting difficult to track reliably.)

If you have your Wave invite, but haven’t been added to the two primary Wave conversations we have going regarding the campaign, again–email me, so I can make sure you’re added to the discussions.

If you have access to the Wave conversations, but haven’t been added as an author to this blog and want to be, you guessed it–email me (make sure you let me know the email address tied to your WordPress.com user account). Also, if I’ve forgotten to add your information to the About page and your link to the Blogroll, let me know that too!

At this point, Twitter is not a reliable means for me to adequately keep track of everyone and their needs. It’s too easy to lose you in the shuffle there, so I can’t stress this enough: if you really want to make sure I see what you need and get it taken care of, the best way to do that is to email me.

Once everyone has their Wave accounts and access to the necessary documents, we’ll be rolling characters and the campaign will start shortly thereafter.

I’ll cross-post the campaign intro here as well as in Wave, and I’d also like to get everyone’s character back stories/bios posted here as well for ease of reference.

Once the campaign is underway, I’ll be re-posting the goings-on here so folks who want to watch the excitement but not necessarily participate can keep track of us.

That’s it for now!

The WoW Twitterati Invade the DnD Universe

Posted by JP on November 11, 2009

It all started innocently enough. Lassirra posted a random Tweet:

As you wander down a barely discernible path in the forest, you encounter a small pack of gnolls tending camp. Roll for initiative.

And before she knew it, she was inundated with replies for rolls and other D&D-related shenanigans. From there, it was proposed that a Twitter D&D campaign should be started. And from there, the excitement grew. The next thing we all knew, the campaign was assured and the fun was being moved to Google Wave.

Now, the planning stages begin as the WoW Twitterati prepare for their first D&D adventure. This blog has been started to chronicle those adventures. The campaign also has it’s own twitter account.

If you’d like to join in the fun, a Google Wave account is required. Send Lassirra an email for more information. If you don’t have a Google Wave account, we can see about getting you an invite.

A new adventure is about to unfold…
